Lots of new Children's Items
Our children's book castle-area is full of books from baby to young adult. We carry a wide array of Melissa and Doug wooden puzzles and toys. We also carry most Gamewright card games that kids love. We are slowly but surely getting more kids items into the store.
Puppets! Puppets! Puppets!
Go to Folkmanis.com and see the incredible array of puppets they offer. Then call us 1-740-592-4865. We may not have the puppet you need in stock all the time, but we order constantly and can get it for you in around 2 weeks. We ship it from our store for free! We also handle school, library, and church purchase orders.
Lots of Free Parking at Our New Location
We are at 74 East State Street. Located near the intersection of East State Street and Stimson aAve. and bordering Fern Street, it was once the home of The Peddler and the Packer. We are open Mon.- Sat. 9:00 to 7:00 and 12:00 to 6:00. Soft sofas and chairs for comfortable seating. Come on in and see Athens newest hang-out spot for your mind. Seven parking spaces on the Fern street side of the Book Center too!
Mellisa and Doug(r) Wooden Puzzles and Games
We are the only Athens store to carry Melissa and Doug(R) quality products. Parents tell us all the time it is hard to find products like Melissa and Doug. We are carrying almost 100 different items right now and will carry more as we sell them. Go to melissaanddoug.com to see what they have. We can special order from them too.
Book Trading
Athens Book Center allows you to bring your books in and trade for more used books. We put a resale value on the book (usually half the cover price or what it is selling for now on the internet) and you get 1/3 value in book credit. We keep the credit on a rolladex. When you are getting used books for credit, 3/4 is taken off the credit and 1/4 is paid in cash. For example, you have $12 of credit on file and want $10 worth of used books, so $7.50 is taken off the rolladex and $2.50 is deducted for cash. This allows us to pay our electric bill each month (about $400!). If you do not have any cash though, we often do not charge. We just want you to read books. Some books are not good for trading; Hard back fiction (unless a very popular author), serial romances, and sets of encyclopedias. If you have a lot of books, call before lugging them down to the store.

Teachers
Our store helps promote reading and that books are important. Bring your class by for a visit as part of a reading field trip! Give us a call and we can work on making your class visit a good one. And remember, if you are using your money for classroom books (and what teacher doesn't?) we give you a discount to help out.
