The registered number of this set is ___." **The books are NOT numbered; this page is unmarked in all volumes. Overall they are in good condition for their age. All have edge/corner bumps, scratches & rubbing on covers & spines. Spine printing is on heavy paper which is glued to the binding; all are readable but discolored due to age. Gilt along top edges has darkened but still has a light shine. All spines in solid condition w/ typical age fraying at corners & edges. (Vol. VIII has a small strip torn away from the bottom of the paper to the bottom of the book, but this is aesthetic damage only; it doesn't affect the book's binding, just the exterior of the spine.) Covers are a matching dark red with a sort of tiny houndstooth pattern; I'm not sure what the material is. The flyleaf papers are originals (cream-colored with green leaf design); these also have darkened somewhat but are still attractive. The insides of all volumes are clean & free of writing or other marks. Only very light foxing; text still crisp & very readable. Lots of b&w photographs inserted within text. All colorized plates have tissue guards. Bindings & hinges in solid condition, no loose covers or pages that I could find. Everything appears to be original; no repairs, tape, or other 'fixes.' Scarce as full set. Will require extra shipping due to weight & total size of the books. [5256]
